China Railway Engineering Group Co.Ltd to Construct a Historical Kigamboni Bridge in Tanzania

Tanzania government under his Excellence.Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has proven the flying model of improving economic stability through  modernising Transporation utilities in the country.Today, 9th January 2012, The Government of Tanzania in partnership with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has signed the contract with China Railway Engineering Group Company Limited  for constructing a historical Kigamboni Bridge. According to Minister for Works, Hon. Dr.John Pombe Magufuli stipulated that the bridge will be funded by Tanzania Government (40%) and NSSF(60%) and ordered the contractor to finish the construction within 36 months. Kigamboni Bridge is designed to be constructed at Kurasini-Vijibweni  and covering  a 680m high and 2.5 km long.

For a while, Kigamboni residents were considerable facing transportation uncertainty due to ferry traffic which caused the govenment under his excellence Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete to plan for this construction before his period.  The construction of this bridge will precipitate economic growth and transportation prosperity to Kigamboni poor people and similarly will reduce transportation difficulties between Kigamboni and Dar es Salaam City Centre. Meanwhile the construction plans of Kigamboni Bridge are underways, The minister for Works ,Hon.Dr.John Pombe Magufuli has ordered the raise of  ferries fares all over  the country  to  200 from 100 Tanzania Shillings. The raised caused great saga between Member of Parliament (MP) from Dar es salaam constituencies and Minister for works.The  Dar es slaam MP's declared that 200Tanzania shilling is very high for poor people to afford.But according to reallity, I do support Dr.Magufuli because the running costs for these feries are very high and inorder to ensure reliable transports the price must be  raised and controlled accordingly. May be the electronic machine has to be installed at the check point and strong inspection must be performed. Leaving loads to government to provide every public services for free can cause the country to countinue being aids dependent. In another hand, some of the Tanzanian politiacian are also  misleading citizen,they are not very transparent to their voters.Any ways ,let us turns to our issues of interest,..Kigamboni bridge.

Design specification of the Bridge showed that it will connect to an approach road of about 1.0 km that will cross the TAZARA Railway line to the north and finally intersect with Madela road. On the Kigamboni side the Bridge will connect to an approach road of about 1.5 km that will intersect with the Kigamboni Ferry - Kibada Road.The construction phase will includes the following works;
(i) Construction of two reinforced concrete pylons of a cable stayed bridge with centre span of 250m and total bridge length of 680m
(ii) Installation of wax coated stay cables including anchorages
(iii) Construction of Six (6) lanes dual carriageway with two (2) sidewalks pre-stressed box girder concrete deck of 680m total length and 27.5m total width
(iv) Construction of two (2) reinforced concrete abutments founded on piles
(v) Construction of retaining structures of 450m length
(vi) Construction of six (6) lanes dual carriageway to bitumen standard approach roads ofabout 2.5 km
(vii) Construction of one toll plaza on Kigamboni side. (Toll Plaza Shopping Mall)
